The project was to develop and produce culturally sensitive information, education and communication material in the form of a drama edited on a DVD with the aim of raising awareness and enlightening African communities on Sickle Cell.
A drama entitiled THE FAMILY LEGACY was developed with information prompts/links and case studies subtitled in French relating to issues that arose in the drama at intervals.
The project is at the dissemination of the drama phase and will target members of the African communities living and working in the London Borough of Southwark.
The DVD will be distributed through workshops, face to face canvassing, open activities, family gatherings such as christenings, naming ceremonies, religious occasions, including Friday (Juma) Islamic prayers, Sunday church services and net working meetings with other partner organisations.
Distribution will be co-ordinated through the project partner organisations that are contracted with specific distributing activity as well serving on the project advisory committee.
The project will be directed by a project advisory group drawn from members of the communities mainly those living with the sickle cell condition, carers, a health promotion agency, the sickle cell awareness voluntary groups and the disseminating partners. The main task of the group will be to advise on the strategic direction of the project.
