HIV/AIDS Projects

African Muslim Communities Campaign on HIV/AIDS (AMCCH).

WoManBeing is a member organisation of the African Muslim Communitites Campaign on HIV/AIDS (AMCCH) patnership funded by Lambeth PCT on a yearly basis to develop and implement projects on HIV/AIDS sensitisation and awareness, stigma and discrimination among the African Muslim communities in the boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.

1. Islamic Leaders Support Circle on HIV/AIDS (ILSCH) project(2006/2007)

This project is a continuation of the Islamic leader’s programme (2005/2006) which aimed at developing a network among Islamic leaders to enable sensitisation of Muslim congregations and communities on HIV prevention.

Other HIV/AIDS projects;

1. HIV testing Campaign (2006)

The overall aim of the project is to raise awareness on voluntary counselling and testing among the African communities in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. The project will be delivered through series of informal house-hold sessions, where groups (family members, friends and colleagues) will be invited to discuss the issues of HIV Testing and how they can be motivated to take voluntary testing.

2. Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham African women HIV/AIDS primary and secondary prevention needs assessment (2005 - 2006).

The needs assessment will investigate the appropriate needs of African women living and working in LSL from a range of different communities including Francophone communities.

The information obtained will inform how effective sexual health promotion and HIV/STIs prevention interventions with African women and their partners can be undertaken.

The project is being implemented by the LSL African Women HIV Prevention Partnership. The partners being WoManBeing Concern, the South London African Women’s Organisation (SLAWO) and KADODO with WoManBeing Concern playing a lead role.
