Mobilising Men against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the UK
(2005 - 2007).
This is a two year project funded by the Community Fund that aims at establishing the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP)of men on issues of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the U.K. and how these can be used to strengthen the campaign against FGM. The project is divided into two phases:
Phase 1: (Jan 2005 - Dec 2005)
This Phase comprised a research on Knowledge, Attitudes and Practise (KAP) of African men towards FGM in 5 cities in the U.K namely, London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Sheffield and Manchester. The initial results from the survey indicates that men’s attitudes and beliefs are changing as follows;
- Over 90% of respondents believe that FGM is not done for Men.
- Nearly 85% of respondents believe that there are no social or economic benefits of FGM to societies where it is practiced
- Nearly 95% of respondents believed that the practice must stop.

Phase 2: (Jan 2006 - Dec 2006)
This phase involves planning appropriate interventions to address the issues of FGM with African communities with focus on men as well as implement a pilot intervention: 'Men against FGM', in London.
