U.K. Projects

1. Mobilising Men on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) (2005 - 2007).

This is a two year project funded by the Community Fund that aims at establishing the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) on issues of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the U.K.

The project is divided into two phases:

Phase 1:
This entails Conducting a preliminary qualitative survey of African men's knowledge, attitudes and practice (KAP) on issues of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Phase 2:
This phase involves planning appropriate interventions to address the issues of FGM with African communities with focus on men as well as implement a pilot intervention: 'Men against FGM', in London.

2. Raising awareness on issues of HIV/AIDS among African Muslim women (2005 - 2006).

This is a current on going project carried out through advocacy and training in Mosques in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham boroughs and is funded by Lambeth Primary Care Trust.

3. Raising awareness on issues of HIV/AIDS among African Muslims in LSL by involving leaders and Imams of various mosques as support circles.(2005 - 2006)

This project on HIV/AIDS and is funded by Lambeth PCT. This project aims to create a network between Mosques in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. Members from these mosques will be trained on HIV/AIDS prevention, stigma and discrimination and care in order to empower them to train others and their congregations thus own the project.

4. Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham (LSL) African women's primary and secondary HIV/AIDS prevention needs assessment.(2005 - 2006)

This project on primary and secondary HIV/AIDS prevention needs and is funded by Lambeth PCT and Health First. The needs assessment will investigate the appropriate HIV/AIDS prevention needs of African women living and working in LSL from a range of different communities including Francophone communities.The information obtained will inform how effective sexual health promotion and HIV/STIs prevention interventions with African women and their partners can be undertaken. WoManBeing is working in partnership on this project with South London African Womens Organisation (SLAWO) and KADODO - a Togolese Katolik Alliance, a Christian faith-based community group but open to others. 5. HIV/AIDS Testing Campaign (2006)

This is WoManBeing's latest project on HIV/AIDS and is funded by Health First under the African Health Forum (AHF) small grants scheme. The aim of the project is to raise awareness on voluntary counselling and testing among the African communities in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. The project will be delivered through series of informal house-hold sessions, where groups (family members, friends and colleagues) will be invited to discuss the issues of Testing and how they can be motivated to take voluntary testing.
